Smart Giving

A LASTING IMPACT

There are many ways to leave your legacy and have a lasting impact on the causes most important to you with “smart” giving.

Since 2000, Lodi House has worked tirelessly to provide compassionate support, counseling and shelter to homeless women and children who have gone on to lead courageous, healthy and independent lives. With the support of our community and wonderful donors, Lodi House has impacted and changed more than 1,000 lives in 20 years.

Our plans for the future are to grow and provide more desperately needed transitional housing for women striving to end the cycle of poverty and homelessness. These are big plans that will make a lasting impact for generations.

Giving through planned gifts is how you can help us and leave your legacy.

"SMART" GIVING

Not all planned giving has to be made in your will and estate plan. During your lifetime, there are many ways to plan substantial gifts that make a real difference in the lives of others.

These gifts also can provide tax advantages to benefit you and your family. Your financial and legal advisors can help determine the best tools for you.

● List Lodi House to receive your Required Minimum Distribution from your IRA or 401K retirement account. The IRS requires those 72.5 years and older to make annual withdrawals from their retirement accounts and pay taxes on the income. If you don’t need the income or only need a portion of it, you may designate Lodi House to receive the distribution. You can claim this contribution as a charitable donation and avoid paying taxes, too. Lodi House, as a non-profit, does not pay taxes on it. You can gift your RMD by simply contacting your brokerage firm or financial planner and filling out a form.

● Donate stocks and real estate to Lodi House. By giving stocks or real estate to a charity, you avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciated value. Plus, you may be able to claim a charitable deduction on your taxes.

● Talk to your advisors about Charitable Lead Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts and Donor Advised Funds. There are many legal and financial instruments or tools to give money now or later.

A LASTING IMPACT

There are many ways to take care of your family and include Lodi House in your will and estate plan. Here are some suggestions to discuss with your legal and financial advisors:

● List Lodi House as a beneficiary on your life insurance, IRA or other retirement plan account. A charitable donation from your estate may lessen the tax burden your heirs will face.
● Make a bequest of a specific dollar amount or percentage of your estate in your will.
● Donate the contents of your home. The Lodi House Thrift Store will work with your family and stage an Estate Sale. This saves your family the difficult work of emptying a house, and it may be deductible as a charitable donation and lessen the tax burden of your estate. To coordinate an Estate Sale, please contact Ed Beeker, Thrift Boutique Director, (209)365-7622.221 West Lodi Avenue Lodi, CA 95240.

If you have any questions about making Lodi House part of your planned giving, please contact us by calling Lodi House at (209) 334-6346 or send an email to shelby@lodihouse.org

If you have made a planned gift to Lodi House, please let us know so we can thank you!
